DRBC History

Founded in 1984 by Bucks County, PA, and New Jersey dachshund lovers, DRBC is a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit organization supported completely by donations. Our all-volunteer organization works tirelessly to provide an experience for both the adopter and adoptee that helps guarantee a perfect match.

DACHSHUND RESCUE OF BUCKS COUNTY & NJ is located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Our rescue program, which has been in existence for over 40 years, serves the dachshund rescue needs of Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, and Delaware.

1984

Operations Begin at DRBC

DRBC begins operations saving 2 dachshunds in need and establishing practices and polices that still serve the organization today.

1995

Sanctuary ‘GrandPaws’ Program Kicks Off

The DRBC Foster Program expands and begins the ‘GrandPaws’ Program giving sanctuary to those who will never place extending the length and quality of their life.

1998

DRBC Joins PetFinder

DRBC is the 7th group to join and help PetFinder achieve National status while extending our reach in the adoption arena.

2008

Community Outreach Begins

The DRBC Foundation Groups are formed reaching out to members of the community in need. Food, bedding and vet care keep many dogs with their families.

2012

And Then There Was Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy strikes and DRBC works with shelters and NJ based rescues in NJ to move dogs to safety in our PA foster homes.

2013

Sponsorship of GrandPaws Dogs Begins

Everyone needs someone to make them feel special. The ‘Best Friend’ Program starts to help those that cannot own a dog participate in the care of a dog.

2014

The Doxie Boutique Opens

Doxie Boutique Opens providing dachshund realted items for owners and furkids and most importantly an addition income stream to support dogs in foster and long-term care.

2015

DRBC Joins the No-Kill Movement

DRBC joins the no-kill movement and shares statistic with Shelter Animals count. Shelter Animals Count (SAC) is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to collecting, analyzing, and sharing data on animal sheltering across the United States and Canada.

2017

Get Your Rescue On

Live, Love, Rescue’ Program begins helping familes in need with food, supplies and medical support.

DRBC Helps Hoarding Doxies

DRBC participates in its largest hoarding pull to date with over 25 doxies saved from deplorable conditions. All would go on to find loving homes.

2018

Medical Care Moves In-House

The Clinic at DRBC opens for fosters and sanctuary families. Basic care, laser therapy and much more await new arrivals. Vaccination Clinics begin for the community.

2019

Time to Address A Dream

The DRBC Building Fund opens! Time to begin work towards the dream with our Tree of Life’.

2020

One Family Changed Everything

DRBC Foundations Program expands and now includes reunification where possible. Puppy, our initial applicant was provided care and returned to his family to live a wonderful live.

Down Under Didn’t Seem That Far

Fire strikes Australia. DRBC participates in medical relief with an airlift of needed bandages, medications and other key medical supplies.

The Covid Pandemic Swept Through Our Region

Covid strikes. DRBC works with shelters and the public to get a record number of dogs to safety. The rescue expands its efforts to include mixed breeds calling them doxie wanna-be’s.

2021

Up, Up and Away for those in need

DRBC takes to the air with the help of Pilots to Paws. This important relationship has saved dozens of doxies since its inception.

2022

Our First Grant

DRBC receives its first grant and joins Maddies Fund in battling homelessness.

2023

A Key Partnership Forms

New York’s ACC partners with DRBC to help dachshunds and other small dogs get to safety and loving homes.

The Medical Foster Program Begins

As the need for support of dogs with medical issues grew, DRBC expanded its foster support in a specialized manner. The Medical Foster Program became a key piece in recovering and rehoming dogs with special needs.

2024

Back to Back hoarding situations hit the rescue

The ‘Fight the Abuse’ initiative has its strongest impact rescuing almost 100 dogs from 4 horrible situations. All received medical care, behavioral support and eventually a new loving home.

2025

Happy Birthday DRBC!

DRBC celebrates its 40th Birthday having saved or helped over 40,000 animals and their families.

Time to Formalize Our Efforts

Our fist 5 year Strategic Plan is developed strengthen our mission and aiming at our first building. The Plan becomes part of ‘Our Numbers’. Check it out!

Getting Every Dog Off to the Right Start

Project Backpack’ begins providing basic supplies for dogs rescued by DRBC. A new collar and leash, warm banket, food, bowls and more await every surrendered dog thanks to this new program.

The Path to Recovery Improves

Technology moves forward with the introduction of the Buddy ID System. Now renification is a scan of a QR Code away for all fosters and adoptees.

A New Therapy Doxie and A New Community Effort

Logan Schroder, our newest therapy dog hits the road reaching out to nursing homes, participating in DRBC events and looking ahead as he represnts DRBC and the breed.

Abuse isn’t Just About Animals

DRBC joins the Purina Purple Leash Initiative helping to get the word out to the battered and abused. They can escape the abuse and not loose their animals. Help is but a phone call, email or message away for you and you pets.
